What Mattered to Megan Mattered to me, and now, "What matters to you, matters to us."
Megan is why being your benefits broker is our passion.
I initially began my insurance career for money and the compensation structure. In December of 2011, all of that changed dramatically and forever. Let me tell you about Megan, and how her Hospital Indemnity policy payout, shifted my paradigm completely.
The Story of Megan and how her two day hospital stay shifted our entire paradigm.
In the fall of 2011, a young lady named Megan, enrolled in the Hospital Indemnity policy, even though the premium was going to strain her already tight budget (she was a receptionist for a small contractor). Megan had a family that included her boyfriend and their three children. Three months later, two weeks before Christmas 2011, I learned that Megan had gotten sick and was hospitalized for two nights. I, personally, filed her claim and within three days her hospital indemnity policy paid her $1,200.00.
One Monday morning, while I was in a meeting with my agents, I received a phone call and realized that it was Megan. I immediately ran outside into the freezing cold and took the call. When I answered the call I heard Megan crying on the other end. I was surprised that she was crying, and said, "Megan, I looked in my backoffice, on my computer, and it showed that you received $1,200.00 for your hospital stay. Did you get the money??" Megan responded, through her tears, "Yes, I got the payment. That's not why I'm calling." I responded, (with confusion), "Oh, ok". "Sam, we didn't have enough money to buy the kids gifts this year for Christmas. We were within a few days of having to sit them down to tell them that we didn't have enough money to celebrate Christmas." I immeditely said, "Oh no, Megan, I'm so..." Megan then interrupted me and said, "No, no, listen. I received the $1,200.00 payout from the Hospital policy you persuaded me to buy and now we can buy the kids gifts for Christmas. Sam, if you hadn't explained to me the importance of that Hospital policy, I wouldn't have bought it, and we would not have this $1,200.00. Now, we can have Christmas. Thank you Sam." All of a sudden, I started crying, right outside of my office. I couldn't respond. I was crying too hard. In that instant, Megan said, "Merry Christmas Sam". I composed myself just enough to reply, though tears, "Merry Christmas, Megan." In that moment, compensation didn't matter to me, residual commissions didn't matter to me, all that mattered to me, in business, before that moment, didn't matter to me any more. Only one thing mattered at that time, and it was this... the fact that what mattered to Megan was being able to provide Christmas for her and her family. So, in essence, what mattered to Megan mattered to me. This was the moment that my paradigm shifted, radically, forever. From that moment forward, our paradigm became, and remains, "What matters to you, matters to us".
This is who we are. This how we operate..."What matters to you, matters to us."
This is why we remain trustworthy, full of integrity, and transparent.
You are our "Why".
Thank you Megan!
